Course Overview

The Motion Graphics workshop focuses on teaching Adobe After Effects to bring students into the world of animated graphics and visual effects.

Designed for students from all artistic backgrounds, the Motion Graphics workshop starts with the principles of animation and how they apply to motion graphics, basics of After Effects and building fluency within the software while learning tips and tricks to speed up workflow.

Students will gain a solid foundation of motion graphics using real world projects and will improve their creativity and enhance their digital skill-set.

To prepare students for the real world work environment, there will be discussions about the Motion Design industry including but not limited to professional expectations and behavior, creative process, working environments, and career paths.


Brian O. Wilson /Course Instructor

Brian Is Creative Director at Zero Gravity and has been working in the field of animation and motion design for over 12 years. He graduated with a Masters degree in Computer animation from Bournemouth University and has had his short animated film featured on several platforms including film festivals. He has created motion design and animated content for a diverse range of brands like Pepsi, Soul II Soul, GTBank and Zenith Bank.

Course Objective

  • Gain a strong working knowledge of After Effects especially as it relates to Motion Graphics
  • Integrate work into various disciplines and learn industry trends
  • Develop a more keen sense of observation and imagination
  • Learn and actively practice critiquing skills
  • Create a discourse around best practices for the artist and applications / opportunities in the real world

Course Format

This 4-week course will involve a 3-hour workshop once a week with homework given after each workshop. Workshops will consist of lessons, demos, student presentations, and critiques. Homework will be submitted 2 days before the next class via online link. Classes will be collaborative with every student critiquing everyone else's work and defending their own work. The workshop will be intense and fast-paced however participants will leave having the necessary tools and confidence to take on any motion graphics project.
